Very Important Question!

Ok, so Jeff and I want to take 1 last vacation this August before we have a baby, kind of a last hurrah. We want to go with a bunch of Jeff's (and now my) Harvard buddies and possibly a few of my friends as well. We thought about Vegas again, but decided against it since it's like 110 degrees there in the summer (thanks for whoever told me that in a comment!) and it would be way too hot to walk around. Also, if I were to get pregnant before August, inhaling all that secondhand smoke would be really bad for the baby. I need suggestions for good vacation spots! Here's what we're thinking about, I'd appreciate any other ideas or opinions!

  • Some sort of all inclusive resort: Beaches or Dreams Resorts maybe? Hurricanes could be an issue depending on where we go.
  • A cruise, but again, it's hurricane season and that can cause problems with the boat rocking. I got sick for a day last time we were on a cruise because of that. A rocking boat would be awful if I were a couple months pregnant and already dealing with morning sickness too. I feel like a cruise would be really hit or miss, but I enjoyed the last one we went on!
  • California. Probably San Diego, San Francisco, and wherever else we feel like going.
  • Hawaii could be cool, but I don't know if I could d a 12 hour flight or whatever it is.
  • Believe it or not, we do NOT want to go to Disneyworld! We've been so much the past few years and want to do something new. Next time we go to Disney, there will be a little toddler with us! :)
Thoughts? Even if you've never commented before, I would love to hear from you!

ABC's

I had a great first day back at work! The kids were a little off, but that was to be expected and most of them were really wonderful and we got a lot of work done today! My new study hall is awesome which is a nice way to end my day!

Weekend Recap

We had a really nice weekend! On Friday were were supposed to see a friend of mine from college and her husband, but they had to cancel. They owed a ton in taxes, and her husband, whose a firefighter, was offered overtime and took it. I was disappointed because I haven't seen her since we left college in 2006, but I completely understood. We'll hang out soon! Instead, Jeff and I went to Outback. We (Jeff) decided since there was only 2 of us that we weren't going to get our fav appetizer, the Bloomin' Onion, which made me sad but oh well. However, we were seated maybe 5 minutes, when a manager came over and asked us if we could move since we had a bigger table for just the 2 of us and they had a big party coming in and he'd give us a free appetizer! Of course we said yes (we would have even without the free appetizer) and I was so happy to get the Bloomin' Onion anyway! Jeff just shook his head when I pointed out that I usually get my way even when he doesn't want me to haha! :P

On Saturday we went to Buffalo Wild Wings in Port Chester, NY for a late lunch. We go there constantly and almost always see a movie afterwards since the theatre is right there. This time we saw "She's Out Of My League." It had some funny parts, but overall, was pretty stupid and I wouldn't waste my money seeing it in the theater. If you really want to watch it, wait till you can rent it. I did some lesson planning and grading when we got home, which I am grateful for today since I really don't feel like doing it! I am all set for tomorrow and have homework sheets done for Tuesday with the exception of health. I caught "Look Whose Talking" on WETV last night, so I watched that till almost 3am! I love that movie and forgot how awesome it is! :)

I have serious Sunday blues today! Having 2 weeks off was awesome, we did some great things, but now the only day off I have is Memorial Day. I definitely plan on taking a personal day on a Monday to give myself a 3 day weekend in a few weeks, but it's going to be a loooooooong stretch till June 18th (although after spring break, the school year usually flies by!) Sometimes I wish we had a week off in February and a week off in April, but it is nice to have 2 weeks off at once. Next year they decided to give us the Jewish holidays off in the fall and Good Friday, so this is the last year I won't have Good Friday off! Speaking of which, can you believe Easter is in a week? I can't believe it will be April on Thursday! This year is flying by! We have no food and desperately need to go grocery shopping tomorrow, so we are ordering Chinese food for dinner. This was definitely the weekend of not cooking which has been fine with me!

In TTC news, even though we aren't quite there yet, I ovulated the other day! I have been really bad about taking my temps at the same time every day since I was on spring break and didn't want to wake up early when we aren't trying yet, and we were in a different time zone for almost a week which screwed everything up as well! This is my first month off of birth control and it's nice to see that my body is getting back on track so quickly! I was a bit worried that I wouldn't ovulate this month, so I am super relieved! I've heard of people taking several cycles after getting off BCP to ovulate and stuff, and I thought for sure I'd be one of them! I am definitely going to be more consistent with my temping times next cycle so I get a better feel for what my body is doing. I have a few weekend grad classes in April (yuck), so I will be getting up early most of the time anyway!

I hope everyone else had a great weekend! What did you do?

Getting To Know You Sunday!

Hi everyone! Weekend recap coming later, but for now...

1 - Why did you start blogging?
I started reading a friend's blog and decided to do it myself! This isn't my first blog, I had another one, but I mentioned work on there too much for my liking. At first I made it private, but then I decided to just delete it and make a new blog that didn't mention much about work. I don't want to get in trouble for talking about students or whatever, even though I never used names/pictures, or told any really personal info, but I also like that people read my blog and it's harder to get and keep followers when you're private. I know that I tend to not read the private blogs as much because they don't show up on my feed list.

2 - Who's the one blog friend that you would want to meet most in "real life"?
There's so many bloggers I want to meet in real life! I can't pick just one!

3 - Why are you always concerned with losing that "extra 10 pounds" when chances are your husband/boyfriend/friends tell you that you look just fine the way you are?
I used to be really caught up in being super skinny and having the "perfect" body. My ex-boyfriend's girlfriend before me was tiny and skinny and I had a really hard time understanding why he went from her to me when we're so different looking with our bodies (meanwhile when we first started dating, I was on Accutane, which took away my appetite, so I was the skinniest I had ever been. That went away once the Accutane was done.) I have hips and a butt and I will never be tiny, but I exercise and try to eat right to be healthy and keep myself at a healthy weight. I am finally at a point in my life where I'm happy with myself the way I am! I wear a size 10, and that's totally fine with me! Jeff also loves a curvier woman and makes me feel beautiful, which always helps! :)

4 - What's the one thing you wish guys could understand about you?
My need to tell my entire story with all the details! I know it's hard for a lot of guys, my husband included, to pay attention to all of that, but I really need to tell the WHOLE story. I am working on trying not to mention every single detail so I don't completely bore my husband!

5 - Tattoos. How many do you have and how many are visible when you wear your "everyday" clothes?
I don't have any and don't want any. It's too permanent for me!

6 - What was the best year of your life and why?
2009 was a great year for me because we got married! I'm sure the year we have our first child will also be amazing! Hoping it's 2011!

7 - Name three things you would do if you were a man for one day.
Not sure. I really like being a girl!

8 - What's your alcoholic drink of choice that usually raises a few eyebrows?

I don't really order anything weird. I hate beer and wine, and I have a very low alcoholic tolerance, so I never really order strong "manly" drinks. I tend to stick with Sprite and vodka, amaretto sours (haven't had one of those in a long time tho), or a Malibu Baybreeze.

Top 10 Tuesday!

I stole this from Ashley. I love these things and will do as many as I can find!

1. When you were a senior in high school, what career did you think you’d choose? Did you? Why or why not? I've known I wanted to be a teacher forever, so as a senior, I wanted to be a teacher and that's what I did. I never expected to be teaching middle school special ed. I always imagined myself doing elementary school, but when I student taught 2nd grade I was not a fan. I did so much better and was a lot happier in my middle school BOCES (a separate special ed. school system in NY) placement. I could never teach little kids now.

2. What one thing about the “real world” did you find most surprising once you were on your own? How fast the bills come! I never realized how much $ goes into paying bills each month. It feels like I just paid them and then they're coming again!

3. Name 3 things you think your closest friends DON’T like about you? I talk a lot and tend to interrupt people. I don't mean to and don't realize I'm doing it half the time. I can also be very impatient and vocal about that. I complain a lot too.

4. In order to sleep, do you need background noise or absolute quiet? I prefer quiet, but I do enjoy the hum of my humidifier. I cannot sleep with the TV or radio on.

5. Why do you choose to reside in your current city? Yes, you have a choice. The commute for my husband is super short, and much shorter for me than it was living with my parents (granted not as close as when I lived on campus for 6 months). This city is more affordable than the surrounding towns, and we have lots to do close by. We will definitely leave here when we have kids ready for school because the public school system in this town isn't fabulous.

6. Are you close to your parents? More with my mom, who I call at least once a week and see once a month or so (saw her today actually.) My dad and I were never close, but we're not super distant either. I see him when I see my mom since they're married haha.

7. What is your favorite fiction book? I really loved "Bergdorf Blondes." I have read it over and over and even though it's shallow and ridiculous, I really enjoy it!

8. Do you enjoy cooking or is it a chore? I like it much more than I used to, but it can feel like a chore if I'm tired after work.

9. Be honest. What one thing would (the majority of) your blog readers be shocked to find out about you? I'm pretty open and tell my readers a lot of stuff. I know I've told everyone that I'm a black belt in karate, but the reason I got involved in martial arts is because I was so shy and had pretty low self confidence. My mom felt karate would help me in that and she was right! I have a lot of confidence now and I credit karate for a lot of that! I'm still shy, but much better than I used to be! I also don't cry at the drop of a hat anymore like I did when I was a kid.

10. If you were given your own national holiday, what would you require people to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the Day of You? Would there be a parade? Greeting cards? I'd do it all except the parade because believe it or not, I don't like being the center of attention and a parade for me would be a bit much! I think everyone would have to have some sort of pancake for breakfast and cheese danish because I love those! Lunch would be chicken fingers and fries, and dinner would be my mom's tortellini dish! It's my absolute favorite meal: cheese tortellini cooked with olive oil, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and broccoli. SO good! I need to learn how to make it sometime! There would also be no school that day! :D

Top 2 Tuesdays... Things You Can't Live Without!

I'm going to take this week's Top 2 Tuesday lightly, much like Taylor did, so this will not include God, my husband, my friends or my family, food, water etc. I'm going to stick to trivial stuff! There's a lot of things I can't live without, but here's 2:

1. Dove Unscented Bar Soap. I cannot use the bodywash version, and this is the only soap that I can use on my skin and not eventually break out in hives from it!

2. Skim milk. I have always been a HUUUUUGE milk drinker! There's only 2 of us living at my house, and we go through at least 1.5 gallons of milk a week, mostly because of me!

On another note... Jeff brought home $76 worth of Girl Scout Cookies! I am in serious trouble because 7 of the boxes are Tagalongs and I can easily eat a box of those in 1 sitting! I've had 3 cookies so far today and this is not good for my diet!

What are 2 things you can't live without?

Back From Vegas!

We're back! Vegas was so much fun and we're already planning to go back maybe this August! I'm still off with the time difference and slept till 1:00pm today, but it felt like 10:00am to me!

This post is REALLY pic heavy!

View of the mountains from our plane!

We stayed at the MGM Grand.

New York New York, which we spent a lot of time at. I loved this hotel a lot!
Bellagio. We saw Cirque Du Soleil "O" here and it was incredible! I highly recommend it!

Jeff and I.

Pretty view in front of the Wynn.

We went to a dueling piano bar in New York New York and it was awesome, probably my favorite night in Vegas! We met up with Jeff's best man Bret and his friend Merica. The dueling pianists were so good and could play basically any song you asked for! It wound up being really pricey with all the drinks and paying the pianists to play your songs, but it was worth it! Definitely check this place out if you go to Vegas! In this pic, some weird guy was trying to dance with Bret. You can tell by the look on his face that he was not thrilled haha!
Bret and Jeff

Jeff and I.

Bret and I.

Me in front of Excalibur. I loved the theme of this hotel, but it was on the older side.

MGM Grand! I really liked this place and would totally stay here again!

Beautiful parasols on the ceiling of the Bellagio.

Crappy pic, but beautiful glass work on the lobby ceiling of the Bellagio.

Jeff and I waiting to get into Serendipity! I think this was my favorite meal of the trip! In NYC, the wait it always terrible, but in Vegas, it was 20 minutes. The food was SO GOOD, but it took them forever to get it to us once we were seated.

Of course, we got the frozen hot chocolate! It was the best thing ever and we finished it in like 3 minutes! Delicious!

The only other meal that was somewhat interesting was Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak. I had really high expectations since he is the head judge on "Top Chef." I would say the restaurant was definitely good. The steak was excellent, but their definition of medium and mine is different, because I felt the steak was a bit undercooked. I also didn't like that all the appetizers were seafood since Jeff and I both hate all foods that come from the water! The drinks were good, as were the side dishes. We were too full for dessert, (We went here the same day as Serendipity which was a mistake) but they had a lot of options and they sounded yummy!

At the airport waiting to go home yesterday, They even have slots there!

We saw a few shows as well. I already Mentioned "O." We also saw Cirque Du Soleil "Mystere" which was awesome, but I liked "O" a little better because it involved a lot of water stunts and was too cool! Our favorite show of all was Penn & Teller. They're at the Rio, which is off the strip and a bit of a pain to get to, but it was well worth it! The show was funny and their magic tricks were incredible! We'd definitely see this show again and I recommend it to anyone! I also really wanted to see Cirque Du Soleil's "Zumanity" but it wasn't playing the night we had free, so I will have to wait till next time! "Zumanity" is the one that's pretty sexual from what I hear and I was also told that it's really funny!

I was really shocked to see how many people brought young kids to Vegas! It's not appropriate for kids in my opinion. They can't gamble, there's secondhand smoke, and when walking on the strip, there's all these people trying to solicit escorts since it's legal in Vegas, and there's lots of cards with naked women on the ground from people who took the escort cards and tossed them. I got really tired of it and I would never be comfortable with my young children being somewhere like that.

It was hard to leave, but I am happy to be home. I still have another week off which is nice! Jeff and I are thinking of getting a bunch of people, including Bret, to go to Vegas again in August assuming I'm not pregnant yet. It would be our last hurrah before children come! I don't think it would be a good idea for me to go to Vegas pregnant because lots of people smoke there and that's not good for a growing baby. We're not going to put off TTC plans, but if I'm not pregnant by August, we're definitely going again!

Vegas!

*Image from here.

I am officially on spring break until March 29th! I am so excited and really needed this vacation! I went to a teacher friend's house after work today and we all sat around and gossiped, which was so fun! I found out there are 4-5 other teachers who plan on trying to get pregnant this summer, so there might just be a HUGE baby boom at EHS next year! I told Jeff I wanted a "pregnancy buddy" and it looks like I might have several! 3 of the girls I know that are planning on trying are pretty good friends of mine, so I'd love for us to all have kids around the same age!

I got my contract for next year! I knew I'd be rehired, so I wasn't worried, but I got a raise, which no one got last year due to the economy, and my evaluation. Of course, there are things they want me to work on, but my evaluation was definitely better than last year's and I know I am getting better at this whole teaching thing!

Jeff and I are leaving for Vegas Sunday afternoon assuming the ridiculous amount of rain we're getting all weekend doesn't delay or cancel our flight! I'm already nervous about the flight and possible delays. I'm also worried that I will take my anti-anxiety airplane meds (I take them 30 min before boarding) and then they will delay the flight! How ridiculous am I for getting worried and anxious over my anxiety meds? Lol! We're flying out of MacArtuhr Airport in Islip, so we are heading to LI tomorrow afternoon, sleeping over, then my MIL is driving us to the airport, which is like 20 minutes from her house. Neither of us will be bringing our laptops, but I will have my Blackberry, so I will definitely be posting pics from my phone to Facebook and Twitter, so if you're friends with me on either of those, you will get to see pics! I will also definitely do a Vegas post after we get back next Friday!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend/week!

Top 2 Tuesdays... Favorite Names!

I love this week's Top 2 Tuesday, especially since we are going to be trying for a baby soon! Jeff and I have had baby names picked out for a long time! I'm kind of bummed that both of them are really popular now, but I'll still use them anyway!

For a boy, it's a tradition on Jeff's mom's side of the family that ALL the boys have a name that being with "J." I personally don't like this tradition because the majority of the good ones are already taken by people who are too young to have a kid named after them! The only "J" name we both like that's not taken and works with our last name is:

Jackson! We'd call him Jack. Not sure on a middle name yet. Jeff wants to use his first name (He has his dad's first name as his middle name, which is Donald, so that kind of sucks in my opinion) so the kid would be Jackson Jeffrey, but I don't really like the way it sounds and I told him he doesn't get the "J" name and his first name as the middle name lol! If we have another boy, I don't know what we would do for a name...

I've had my girl name picked out forever and Jeff loves it, so we're set on that! If we ever have a girl her name will be:

Lily! For a middle name, I'd like to do Patricia after my mom. I think it sounds pretty and Jeff likes it too! If we had another girl, her name would Probably be Hannah Christine, the middle name being Jeff's mom's first name.

What are your favorite baby names?

Getting To Know You Sunday!

Time for MannLand5's Getting To Know You Sunday!

1. Are you more of a talker or a listener?
I do plenty of both, but if I'm comfortable with you, I will talk a lot! I am able to shut up and listen too though!

2. Bra. Underwire or wireless?
Underwire. I think it makes my girls look better!

3. I wish I was.....?
pregnant lol!

4. The Academy Awards are on tonight..will you watch?
Yes! I was worried because stupid Cablevision and ABC cannot reach an agreement, therefore we don't get ABC 7 anymore! Luckily, CT gets channel 8, which is also ABC, and that's still on, so we're OK!

5. Do you put your deodorant on before or after you get dressed?
After otherwise I get white stripes on my shirt no matter what I do!

6. Would you rather do the dishes or clean toilets?
If it's the toilets at our house, I'd rather do that because it's faster. If it was a public toilet... hell no

7. How much did you weigh at birth?
11.5 lbs. and I was 23.5 inches long! I was HUGE and I worry that I will take after my mom and have big babies as well! Her dad was 13 lbs. at birth and my brothers were 10.5lbs. and 9.6lbs. (the smaller one was taken early so he didn't get to my size.) My mother never had gestational diabetes with any of us.

8. If you could only buy one thing for the Spring/Summer season..what would it be?
I've pretty much bought my entire spring/summer wardrobe already, so I will have to say a new Coach bag!

Show Us Your Life- Typical Day

Show Us Your Life with Kelly's Korner

I loooove schedules and routines, so I am really enjoying this week's "Show Us Your Life" topic- my typical day! I'm going to do a work day since weekends are very unstructured.

6:00am- Wake up, take my temp (I'm charting now), brush my teeth, shower, get dressed, do hair/makeup

6:40am- heat up the car, eat breakfast, make coffee for Jeff

6:50am- Leave for work. I like to get there early and get myself and my classroom together before the kids come.

7:10am- Get to work, make copies, etc.

8:00am- Sometimes I have a meeting, otherwise I might surf the web, or maybe do some planning for the next day.

8:18am- Homeroom

8:32-9:17am- Writing class

9:19-9:59am- Study Skills class

10:01-10:41am- Writing class

10:41-10:51am- Juice break! This is a nice little break except for Wednesdays when I have duty outside.

10:51-11:13am- Callbacks. This is a time when we can call kids back to our classrooms for extra help.

11:15-11:55am- Health class, which is my favorite class of the day!

11:57-12:37pm- Study Skills Class

12:39-1:19pm- Lunch. I have to eat with the kids, but I get about 10-15 minutes off at the end of the period unless it's Wednesday and I have recess duty.

1:21-2:01pm- Learning Center, which is study skills for the kids getting ready to graduate, so it's structured a bit more like a typical school class.

2:01-3:00- Free

3:00-4:00- Study hall

Once I get home from work, usually around 4:30 (unless it's Wednesday and I have to stay for send-offs which takes about 25 minutes) I work out, watch TV until Jeff gets home, make dinner, watch more TV while blogging, going on Facebook, etc. I usually go to sleep anywhere from 10:00-11:00pm depending on how tired I am.

I used to be free first period too, but I dropped that when I was asked to take on another writing class for extra pay. It's a bit tiring some days, but overall, the kids are really sweet and I enjoy them so it's been worth it.

What's your typical day like?

Glasses

I got my new glasses today! It definitely takes some getting used to, but I like them and I can see so much better! Jeff asked me if I'd ever consider contacts... maybe someday, but for now, the glasses are fine and contacts kind of freak me out! I'm afraid I'm going to poke myself in the eye lol!

Sorry for the crappy quality, this was taken on iphoto.

Parent teacher conferences tomorrow and Friday! It's going to be a loooooong 2 days!

Top 2 Tuesdays... Favorite Stores!

The Bachelor was a HUGE disappointment! I knew the results since episode 1 since I read Reality Steve, but still....

This week's Top 2 Tuesday is favorite stores! I love shopping, so it was hard to narrow it down to 2, but the places I think I shop the most at are:

1. Old Navy- I used to hate their stuff, but in the past couple years, they really started getting much cuter!

2. Sephora- They have everything! I've loved this store for a long time!

Glasses

I have always had excellent 20/20 vision. I've never had any issues or had to see an eye Dr. in my life. I had a physical in December and I sucked so hard at the vision test! My Dr. said I passed with both eyes (failed with one eve covered), so I was fine, but I personally don't think it's normal to have things on TV or somewhat far away to be blurry. Also, when I put Jeff's glasses on, things were soooo clear and a year ago, they were way too magnified, so I made an eye Dr. appointment for today (hated the glaucoma test when they puff air into your eye BTW). As it turns out.... I have astigmatism and I'm near sighted! I have to wear glasses when watching TV, driving (especially at night, which makes since because I can barely see at night), or any time I need to see something far away. The only times I really don't need to wear them are when I'm reading a book or on my computer because I can see stuff that's close to my face. Being me, I picked out cute designer Juicy Couture frames that are SO me that even Jeff had to agree and I just had to buy them (I never realized how expensive glasses are! My vision insurance also kind of sucks, so there's that). I pick them up Wednesday and I'll be sure to post pics when I do!

On another note... I am officially done with birth control pills for the foreseeable future! I wouldn't mind a happy accident earlier than June, but I don't see that happening haha!
